One of the things he did was take over Gaul. It  is the place we now call France and some other countries like Belgium and Germany. Some people in the Senate were getting worried about Julius Caesar. They thought he was getting too powerful and that he might change the way Rome was run. This made them very scared of Julius Caesar. It eventually led to something bad happening to Julius Caesar.

Early Life and Rise to Power 

Julius Caesar was born in 100 BC into the Juli family in Rome. His family was well known. They were not very rich. From an age he  was very smart and confident. He wanted to do things. He got an education studying things like literature and how to speak in public. He also learned about the military, which helped him later in his life.

As Julius Caesar got older he had to deal with some problems. When Sulla was in charge Julius Caesar refused to give up what he believed in even when he was in danger. So he left Rome for a while. Joined the military. This is where he learned a lot and people started to think he was very brave and a good leader.

When he went back to Rome he started to get into politics. People quickly saw that he was a speaker and wanted to be a leader. He made friends with people and the regular citizens liked him because he promised to make things better for them. He became very popular as he took on jobs.

In 60 BC he made a deal with Pompey the Great and Marcus Licinius Crassus. They called it the First Triumvirate. These three men controlled Rome. Got more power. This helped Julius Caesar become the governor of Gaul, where he would start a successful war.

Julius Caesar did things because he was determined and smart. He could inspire his soldiers and the citizens. These qualities helped him become one of the powerful leaders, in Rome. He was a man who really wanted to achieve greatness. He did. He is still remembered today as a leader.

The Gallic Wars and the Road to Civil War 

The biggest thing Julius Caesar did in the military was the Gallic Wars. This was a bunch of battles that happened between 58 BC and 50 BC. During that time he was in charge of the legions as they went across Gaul. It is a place that includes a lot of the area that’s now France, Belgium and parts of Switzerland and Germany. He was a leader and he came up with some really good plans for battles. This made the Gallic Wars one of the successful times in Roman history for the military.

The victories of he made the Roman territory a lot bigger. Brought a lot of money to the republic.. What was even more important was that Julius Caesar earned the respect and loyalty of his soldiers. The Roman legions liked him because he went through the hard times they did he rewarded people for being brave and he led them in battles that were really tough. As Julius Caesar became more popular some of the people in the Roman Senate started to get nervous.

One of the people who got concerned was Pompey the Great. He used to be really close to Julius Caesar when they were part of the First Triumvirate. As Julius Caesar got more powerful things started to get really tense between him and Pompey the Great. The Senate told Julius Caesar to come to Rome without his army because they were scared that he was getting too powerful.

Julius Caesar did not do what the Senate said. He made a big decision that would go down in history. In 49 BC he took his army across the Rubicon River. According to law no general was allowed to go into Italy with an army. By going across the Rubicon River he was openly challenging the Senate. Starting a civil war that would change Rome forever.

The civil war ended with Julius Caesar winning really big. Pompey the Great ran away to Egypt, where he was killed later. After his rivals were beaten Julius Caesar went back to Rome. He was the most powerful man, in the republic. His success started a time in Roman history but it also made some really powerful enemies who were scared that Julius Caesar was going to be the king of Rome.

Dictatorship, Reforms, and the Assassination of Julius Caesar 

Julius Caesar returned to Rome as its uncontested leader after winning the civil war. In 46 B.C. he was appointed Dictator, and two years later, in 44 B.C., he was given the title Dictator for Life (Dictator Perpetuo). And many Romans admired what he had done. But others feared that Julius Caesar was becoming too powerful. He might be the end of the Roman Republic.
Julius Caesar, as the leader of Rome, instituted many important reforms that improved the administration of the republic. He cut government debt , reformed local governments , and established colonies for retired soldiers and poor citizens . His assassination shocked Rome and remains one of the most famous political assassinations in world history.
The death of Julius Caesar, however, did not save the Roman Republic.
